Maiden’s Event FAQJanuary, MidrealmSetup and Location Food and Drink Details PDF Copy Part A: Setup & Location1. How is the event set up? Locale, ext. Indoor/Outdoor?The event is held in two areas-- the hotel, and the connected small shopping mall common areas. The event is set up in the South Wing, the High Court and then spills out into the middle of the mall. In the hotel are the classes, merchants, ball, and some common areas for socialization. Just outside the hotel is the A&S demonstration area, which could be considered the transition area into the mall space. In the main corridor of the mall they will have fighting set up. 2.Is the area where the festivities will be held, condensed and crowded or is it open with lots of room to set up?There is plenty of room, both in the hotel, in the various public rooms and in the mall. The mall is open to the public and the “tourists” are fascinated by it and spend a lot of time talking to people. There have been no complaints or rumors of the SCA being bothered by people or the loss of items by mundanes. 3. Are the hotel rooms/encampments situated near the activities? There is an elevator to the rooms close to where the vendors and youth combat is. If you are in the mall for the combat activities, you'll have to get into the hotel, but that is a very short walk, either inside or outside. 4.What sort of sitting areas are there, should we bring period chairs, are there chairs supplied, can we bring tables or are table's available to be used and if so should we bring table covering?Period furniture is encouraged in the mall, which is open for passersby to stop by and see what we are doing. There is plenty of nice imported furniture in the hotel, which is decorated in lavish style as a European hunting lodge. There are some tables in the hotel public area, which should not be covered with cloth. Part B: Food & Drink5.What is the food situation?, Is there an Inn? A Feast? There are a number of eating establishments in the mall (a pizza place, a small deli/café, ext), a restaurant and a lunch concession (sandwiches and such, reasonably priced) in the hotel and numerous other food joints of all types within a few blocks. The food court in the mall is not in good view of the fighting, nor is it an ideal place to set up 'camp' There is a rather nice sit-down Chinese restaurant connected to the mall, and Champaign-Urbana is home to a ridiculous number of restaurants if you're willing to make a short drive. A list of eateries will be available at the gates. 6. Can we bring our own food? Both the hotel and the mall sell food, so be discrete about any food that you bring for private consumption. There are plenty of common area in which to sit and eat. 7. Is it a dry site? The site is basically dry, exceptions being in the privacy of the hotel rooms, and in the hotel's restaurant and bar areas. The mall is dry. The bar opens in the afternoon and remains open until 2ish. Part C: Details8.What do people wear? Is this a functional garb event- or do people pull out "The good stuff"Practical during the day and stunning for the ball 9. What is the fighting like? This is the first fighting event of the year and is always well attended. Bearpit tourney is normally used for the heavy fighting; and there will be Midlands championship built into the afternoon rapier. They both will have authorizations and novice tourneys. 8.
